Initial Consultation (20 minutes)
The initial session is a chance for us to get to know each other a little. You’re welcome to ask any questions about the counselling process, how we might work together, and practical things like session times and frequency. I may also ask a few questions about what’s bringing you to counselling and any previous experience you’ve had, just to get a sense of how best to support you.
There’s no pressure to decide anything straight away. It’s important that you feel comfortable, and this first meeting is also a space for you to see whether working with me feels like the right fit.

First Session
The first session will be a little different from ongoing sessions. I’ll begin by going through the counselling agreement with you — it’s a straightforward document that outlines how I work, along with a few practical details such as payment, notice periods, confidentiality, GDPR, and my cancellation policy. There’ll be time to ask any questions if anything’s unclear.
I’ll then carry out a brief, informal assessment. This just means I’ll ask a few questions about your background, any previous counselling experience, and what you’re hoping to get from therapy. I’ll make notes on my laptop as we go, so I can get a fuller picture of how best to support you.
If there’s time at the end, we can use it to reflect on any part of the conversation or go over any remaining questions you might have.

Following Sessions
After the first session, our work will begin to take shape around what you bring and what feels most helpful for you. Each session is guided by your experiences, your needs, and the pace that feels right.
Some sessions might involve simply talking things through, while others may focus on identifying patterns, exploring past experiences, or working with the challenges you're facing now.
The focus is always on creating a safe and respectful space where you can explore what matters to you, in your own time and in your own way. Over time, we’ll work together to build understanding, develop insight, and support any changes you may want to make.
Starting therapy doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with you. It means showing up, just as you are, and allowing yourself to be seen. That takes real courage.
